When each day is the same as the last. . .

When each day is the same as the next, it’s because people fail to recognize the good things that happen in their lives every day that the sun rises.” –  Paulo Coelho

Have you noticed recently that maybe each day appears to be the same as yesterday.  Same job.  Same faces.  Same delicious roast of coffee (just joking). . . Maybe it’s time to Gratify your Life with a HUGE gratitude makeover!?

Today your mission is to TRULY realize the beauty in each moment.  Whether you’re sitting at your desk reading this, or you’re reading this on your iPhone, take THIS moment to look around, smile, breathe in the air, and WRITE DOWN (don’t just think them) all of the things around you (inside & out) that you’re grateful for.  Making a regular practice of being grateful has transformed my entire Life and it will do the same for you if you remain Blissiplined and CHOOSE gratitude in each moment.  Some of my greatest Life Miracles have come from saying ThankYou on the verge of tears, during my most painful-challenging times.  I am here writing this right now from a place of experience, wisdom and KNOWINGNESS that when you change your perspective on life and make a moment-to-moment practice of saying/feeling THANK YOU, everything – and I mean EVERYTHING will change!!

Take it from a Professional GratiDude when I say this … Be grateful, Do the Gratitude Dance, Meditate Daily, share your love, Be passionate about SOMETHING, choose to be Free, let go of self-sabotaging habits (you know the ones), and Listen to the Flow of the Universe … It is whispering your every move!

Wanna get GREAT with your sitting Meditations?  Email me right now at BradiDude@Gmail.com and I will send you a Cowabunga Meditations FREE download.  Breathe, Chant, Be, Bliss   :-)

Persistence, Persistence, Persistence!!

Shares

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” – Calvin Coolidge

What do you want in your Life? I mean, what do you REALLY want, more than anything in the entire world?!

For me, it is ‘to Live each day as though it is the greatest adventure, where I am continually striving to better myself as a human being through all that I think, say and do; while living a healthy-wealthy philanthropic Lifestyle, doing good work in the world by spreading Love, having fun, being creative & raising consciousness!’

That is what I want! Now, what habits do I have to form in order to accomplish that consistent dream-life? For me, meditation is the most powerful tool I have in my toolbox because it keeps me checking in and aware of what is Real & What is Not. It keeps me laser focused on the reality I DESIRE to create, rather than the one my 5-senses tell me exists. Meditation allows for me to feel grounded, centered, and more peaceful – even through challenging, transformational processes. Another thing I need to consistently do to move forward with daily progress is to be grateful for the NOW. Right now, whether we like the way it looks or not is all a part of the divine process. In fact, the more we ask for what we REALLY WANT, the more challenging it may get (short-term) because all of the patterns & stuff that is in our life as a habitual ‘way of being’ that DOES NOT serve that vision for a more Blissful reality will naturally surface in order to be cleared out of your way for the GOOD stuff to Manifest. Therefore…IT IS ALL GOOD!

Persistence to keep moving forward day-in and day-out, as well as Faith in the process unfolding are your best friends. Meditation, like it is for me, can also be One of your best friends on this journey in helping you to remember how Divine and Awesome you are. You are a miracle of the Universe. Each of us is. Remember that today, tomorrow, and everyday…In remembering your Awesomeness, you remind it in others along your adventure!

Hope to see you at meditation tomorrow morning!!! Dress warm because if the sun is out, we’ll be at the beach!

An Answer for your Child’s ADHD

Ever since my girlfriend Allison has come into my life, I have slowly been learning the science and power of Ayurveda.  This is an incredible article on how some simple methods can help your child’s ADHD symptoms reverse significantly.  I hope you enjoy and apply as needed!

PS:  These helpful tools can also be applied to all of us adults who suffer from ADHD as well     :-)

PPS:  I’d love to hear your thoughts after you’ve read it!!  Feel free to leave some comments.

By Carrie Demers, MD (article from “Yoga+ Joyful Living Magazine”)

My eight-year-old son was just diagnosed with ADHD. My husband and I can’t decide if we should give him medication or pursue alternative treatments. What do you recommend?

This is a tough dilemma for many parents. On one hand, studies show that commonly prescribed medications like Ritalin and Adderall are helpful for 60 to 75 percent of children who are properly diagnosed with ADHD: their ability to focus increases, their grades improve, and they feel better about themselves. On the other hand, these medications are psychostimulants with many potential side effects: insomnia, headaches, abdominal pain, weight loss, and depression. Research on the long-term effects of these drugs is insufficient, but in 2007, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued warnings about side effects such as stunted growth and psychiatric problems.

From a holistic point of view, chemical overstimulation of the nervous system isn’t healthy. Fortunately, there are many natural treatments that are effective both alone and in conjunction with drug therapy. Although my answers here are framed by the case of a child, they are applicable to teens and adults as well.

Ayurveda’s Answer:

In ayurveda, ADHD is classified as a vata imbalance. Vata is “wind energy”: it’s light, changeable, dry, cool, and mobile. It governs the movement of our bodies and our thoughts. Everyone has some vata in their prakriti (constitution), but those who have a predominance of this light, expansive energy (i.e., a “vata constitution”) tend to have sensitive nervous systems, so they experience the world with a heightened intensity. As a result, they’re prone to anxiety, inattention, restlessness, and sleep problems. Ironically, these children will often seek out sensory-stimulating activities (such as action movies or sugar-laden foods), creating a vicious cycle that agitates their already overactive nervous systems.

Commonly prescribed ADHD drugs stimulate the brain cells to release more of the neurotransmitters called dopamine and norepinephrine, which generally enhance a child’s ability to control impulsive behaviors and concentrate—but they also cause increased activity in the central nervous system (CNS). I would venture to say that these drugs perpetuate the underlying cause of ADHD—overstimulation of a sensitive CNS—throwing your child’s vata energy further out of balance. According to ayurveda, adopting a vata-pacifying lifestyle is the best natural option for your son.

Create a Routine

Children with ADHD are drawn to new activities, adventure, and change. Yet they’re balanced by the opposite: activities that are calming, relaxing, and nurturing. Your son needs regularity and structure to counter his natural tendency toward chaos: a regular time to do his homework, exercise, relax, eat, go to bed, and wake up to begin a new day. Here’s some advice about how to create a vata-calming environment for him at home.

Relaxation

Do a 5- to 10-minute relaxation with your son at least once a day. Lie down on the floor or in bed in shavasana (corpse pose), supporting your heads with a pillow and covering up with a blanket to stay warm. Then ask your child to feel his body from head to toe. Turn the practice into a game; together, pretend you are a scoop of ice cream melting in the sun, or that you’re sinking into a huge feather pillow. Imagine your breath is like the waves of the ocean—or ask your child to instruct you. The idea is to get your child to relax and deepen his breath, which helps his CNS switch from a sympathetic mode, which is a “fight-or-flight” state, to a parasympathetic mode, which is a nourishing and restorative state. Try this when your child comes home from school, or before supper or bedtime; these are times when our kids can be most overstimulated.

Bedtime Massage

Oil is the quintessential vata balancer, so a bedtime massage is particularly calming for children with ADHD. To begin, wet your hands and pour a teaspoon of organic unrefined oil in your palm. (Olive, almond, and sesame oils are especially grounding.) Then rub your hands together and massage the mixture into your child’s skin. Let the oil soak in for a few minutes, then towel off any remaining residue. Try to do this at least once a week. If you don’t have time to give your child a head-to-toe treatment, just massage his feet (covering them with socks to protect the sheets). If your child has trouble falling asleep, this bedtime activity will help.

Re-Discovery

Who am I and what do I do?
Forgetful I am.  Unsure.  Confused.
The answer seemed clear, not that long ago.
And somehow I’ve forgotten and now I don’t know.

Happiness can not be achieved in all of its’ fullness until the “I” understands Who it is and What Its’ mission is on Planet Earth.  If One is not living in alignment to their mission, then they can not and will not feel completely fulfilled.  Confusion comes when One is seeking outside of ThemSelf for the Who and What, rather than meditating on these important questions.  We can not give of our Love fully unless we know Who we are and we are Living in alignment with our mission because these are the things that will fill us up with Love to give.

Love is not something we will find outside of ourselves in another human-being.  It is something we must work for and discover within Ourselves.  We are the well and we are also the provider of water.  Nobody elses’ water can successfully and sustainably fill our well. In this moment I know these things to be True and I vow to re-discover the essence of Who I am ad What my mission on Planet Earth is.  I just hope I remember to remember this time. . . . BTM

“The secret to a rich life is to have more beginnings than endings.” Dave Weinbaum

The energy is shifting, so it’s time to shift with it. To live in Harmony with Divine Will, we must Live in harmony with the Universe. Understanding the Laws of Nature has been an ongoing journey throughout my own personal journey. Knowing when to take action, when to be patient, when to restore, and when to restart has been vital to moving through life as I have.

Tonight’s meditation will be focused on resetting; Giving Our-Self an opportunity to RESET, RECHARGE, & REALIGN with Divine Will.  We have a New Moon right now, which makes it a good time to start new endeavors, make that phone call/email you’ve been putting off and to come out for a Cowabunga Meditation.  We will breathe in the Awesomeness of Life together, Chant from the solar plexus, and  surrender to the flow of the Universe.

If there is ANYTHING you’ve been struggling with lately, then tonight is the meditation you do not want to miss … (meaning: Be Here!)

Your health is worth the time you take for yourself to Be.  Your dreams are worth achieving.  You are worth all the Love & Joy you can feel and experience!

All the meditation details, down below…

We look forward to sitting with you and tonight!

Staying Resilient During Tough Times

Shares

“People who soar are those who refuse to sit back, sigh and wish things would change. They neither complain of their lot nor passively dream of some distant ship coming in. Rather, they visualize in their minds that they are not quitters; they will not allow life’s circumstances to push them down and hold them under.” – Charles R. Swindoll

I know from my own personal story that it would have and could have been so easy to stop and quit at any moment.  To just pack it all in, turn around and go back to a ‘normal’ life…just like ‘society’ would have preferred.  Something inside me would not let that happen though.  I don’t know if it was the blessing of having an ego and being a stubborn Taurus or if it was the resiliency of that Powerful Spirit that is inside all of us that continued to encourage me and say, “Get back up, try again, you can do this…”

Life tends to knock us around sometimes, often giving us scrapes, bruises and the odd deep gauge.  Isn’t it a beautiful thing?  What doesn’t kill us, can only make us stronger? We must be resilient beings, never accepting failure as the End-point, but only as a new beginning.  We must learn to stand up, smile – especially through the pain, sickness and hard times that are inevitable, because nothing in life is permanent.

As a Human Race, we must be resilient.  We must stand up, even when we’re weak, even when the future looks bleak. If we are feeling strong, then it is our responsibility and opportunity to help out someone else, because you can count on it that we will need them at some point or another.
All generations to come are cheering for us on the sidelines. They depend on it.  This beautiful planet we’ve inherited depends on it.  The existence of Life on Earth depends on our resiliency.

Meditation is a powerful practice to recharge your battery when you’re feeling at your lowest.  It is also a great tool to gain a new perspective when you feel blocked or stuck.  Try it, and do it often.  It may be your Life Raft when the going gets tough!  If you’re in Victoria, feel free to join us for tomorrow mornings’ meditation. You may otherwise, email me to get your very own ‘Cowabunga Meditation’ mp3 to practice staying stronger and becoming more resilient!  (email:  BradiDude@Gmail.com)

Stay blessed. Stay Resilient.  And have a great weekend!

“Air is Meant to be Breathed!”

Shares
“If you’re only breathing with 15% of your lungs, then you’re only living up to 15% of your life’s potential.”

How much of your lungs are you breathing into?  Or better yet, how much of your life are you Truly Living!? The practice of Cowabunga Meditation is focused a great deal on our breath because it is through our breath that we  Open up to the Life-Force Energy/Prana, which is the Awesomeness of our Self, the Universe, and All Creation.  The Divine is something that can’t be intellectualized and experienced…It is something that has to be felt and experienced in order to understand.  Our breath is our most powerful Guide to helping us tap into that Universal existence of Love that is within each of us and Everything.

Have you ever noticed how in your most stressful situations, if you tap back into YOU, rather than ‘the problem,’ you’ll probably notice that you’re holding your breath or your breathing extremely shallow.  If you have a very ‘heady job,’ you’ll likely find that your breathing is likely barely going past your throat.  Whenever I catch myself in a sticky situation or I feel resistance kicking up in my body, more than ever, I focus on taking slow, deep breaths – while saying ‘thank you’ under the exhale.  Try this and watch as a vibration of peace flows down your spine and gently calms you down.

Deep-Breathing is One of the highest forms of Self Love….
If you’re not Breathing, then you’re not fully Livin’ & Lovin’!

I hope this has inspired you to breathe in the Adventure of Life more today than yesterday and more tomorrow than today because life is meant to be Groovy and the air is meant to be breathed!!

Your VIBE is Everything!

Shares

Cowabunga Namaste ♥

Sitting here chillin’ and working in a cool new coffee shopcalled, “Wild” downtown Victoria…and just got a divine reminded that OUR VIBE is everything!! How we feel, what we put out, the way we treat others and especially the Love we treat ourselves with is EVERYTHING. If we desire great dreams in our life and we want a True feeling of all that Life wants to hand us (including this Free Chai Latte that was given to me moments ago) then we have to continue to check in with our own individual VIBES!!

I had been observing my Vibes (energy) recently going up & down, without much control when I realized during one of my meditations this week, I was letting my thoughts ‘run a muck.’ I wasn’t observing and shifting the focus of negative thoughts when I needed to. I used to be very good at continually shifting my focus to the positive in any situation and for some reason or another, it had recently slipped away. I was not holding my mind accountable to what was streaming out of my mouth and through my mind. Today, I am feeling more myself because I’m observing my energy, I am doing my best to be conscious of how I’m treating others, and most importantly I am treating myself Lovingly.

I believe it takes practice grounding and centering ourselves to be able to keep our minds in check, as well as our emotions. Meditation is ONE of those powerful Universal tools that we all have available to help.

“Do as I say, not as I do” (parent’s advice)

Shares

In the work I’ve done for the past several years, working with youth and parents, helping them to step more fully into their Lives and Self I have often heard parents complain about their kids not listening to them.  As a parent I think it is a natural instinct to try and protect your kids from harms’ way, especially when you see them repeating a mistake you made long ago.

Having been a rebellious teenager myself, often going against most things my parents said NOT to do…how does a parent give the freedom to their kids, but also encourage them to make positive choices with their lives?

I have been reading the book “365 Tao” by Deng Ming-Dao, which has been a fantastic read.  Basically, i get a daily insight and meditation to contemplate.  I think the one I flipped open to randomly yesterday will really help you parents in sharing WHY it is you care so much about the choices you make.  I hope you enjoy and pass this article along to any parents who may be struggling with their young ones.

“Uncarved”

Once a statue is finished,
It is too late to change the arms.
Only with a virgin block
Are there possibilities.

‘It’s not easy to raise a child. You have to set an example all the time.  Sometimes it is important for both child and guardian to understand that a child should not do certain things that the adult does.  This is not hypocrisy.  It is wisdom.

There was once a child who responded to his father’s admonitions by saying, “You do the same things.”  The father took his son to a carver of temple figures.  In the yard were great blocks of camphor and rosewood.  Inside the studios were deities in various stages of completion, from gods still with fresh chisel marks to brightly painted and gilded masterpieces.

“I am older than you,” said the father.  “So I am more like one of these finished statues.  I have my accomplishments, and I have my faults.  Once this figure has been carved, we cannot change the position of his arms.”

“But you, my son, are like the pieces of wood in the yard, still to take shape.  I do not want you to have the same faults as I do, so I do not let you do certain things.  Look at me.  Yes, you say I still do certain things, but doesn’t that show how hard it is to undo a mistake once it is carved into you?  Don’t copy me, and don’t make the same mistakes I did.  Only then will you become more beautiful than I.”

Hopefully this will help some of you parents in the “Do as I say, not as I do” talk you all have with your kids at some point or another.  And hopefully if there are any youth reading this, you’ll understand why it’s important to make positive choices now with your health, friendships, career, and how you choose to be as a human being.  All of the things we do now are carving deeply into our subconscious, creating life-long patterns and influence.

Choose well today.

Listening to YOUR Intuition

Shares

Hello & Cowabunga Namaste;

Did you know that you have the most powerful intuition out of ANYBODY you know!?

Did you know that you have the ability to tell what is in the highest and greatest good for YOU in each & every moment?

Before participating in this article, lets just take a few breaths together so we can get into our bodies, get grounded onto Planet Earth and allow ourselves to be present and in our hearts.  By being in our hearts we’re able to decipher Truth & Falsity much easier.

Take a slow breath in through your mouth…….gently exhale through your mouth.
Breathe in fully through your mouth……..gently exhale through your nose.
Breathe deeply & fully through your nose…..slowly exhale through your nose.
Take a deep breath in through your nose…………..gently exhale through your mouth.

Now that you’re feeling more present; YES, it is TRUE that your intuition is more powerful than anyone’s you know!  There is nobody on Planet Earth who can tell you what choices will serve you best and which ones won’t, better than you.  That strong, silent, yet powerful voice inside of you is the TRUE voice that you want to be listening to.  It is the voice of Destiny.

Have you ever had all of the closest people in your life telling you that ‘you should do this and you should do that’…. but never stopping to ask you what you are doing or what you plan to do???

I have found that with a consistent daily practice of yoga and sitting meditation (doesn’t matter which kind) have helped me to become more powerfully attuned to MY OWN INTUITION. Before I learned to quiet my mind I would feel confused and chaotic inside because everyone around me was telling me what to do, how to do it, where to go, etc…I was never listening to My Inner Calling.   Sound familiar?

‘Life can be like the currents in the Ocean; throwing us around, left & right, smashing us up against painful rocks; That is, until we find the power to ground ourselves like a rock and listen to that intuition.  When we are grounded, centered and focused, it does not matter what the current around us is doing, because we are All Knowing & Confident.’

I want to re-affirm to any of you self-doubters out there.  Listen to yourself, to where inspiration leads you.  If you practice tuning in to what your body is speaking, then you’ll know more often when to say ‘yes’ and when to say ‘no.’  If you listen to what everyone thinks about you and if you let other people’s judgments get the best of you, then you’ll remain in a stagnant, unfulfilling rut in your life.

To practice the power of your intuition, you have to practice LISTENING to it and FEELING what it is saying.  So, here is a simple & FUN exercise for you to begin practicing today. . . . We are given many choices everyday, often multiple choices each moment.  Your mission is to begin questioning the actions you commonly take without thinking about.

YOUR 24-Hour Intuition Challenge:

For the next 24-hours (and beyond) your mission is to ask yourself before making any choices, “Is this in my highest and greatest good?” OR “What is in my highest good right now?” You will know, based on your body’s response if it is, or if it isn’t.  And the challenging part of this exercise, is saying NO when it’s not in your highest good and YES when it is!!  Be patient with yourself because that quiet voice inside of you that only speaks Truth can be very quiet!  LISTEN. . .

When you’ve completed the 24-hours, share your experience, thoughts and opinions at my blog site, www.CowabungaLifestyles.wordpress.com

Your reward, if you choose to accept this mission and follow through, is ONE COMPLIMENTARY COACHING session with me.  During this session you will learn a powerful intuitive technique that can help you to overcome obstacles, self-doubt, self-sabotaging patterns, beliefs, and memories…..ALL through your own intuition. This technique can help to elevate your personal life, as well as your business life!

Good luck.  And have fun communicating & listening to YOUR intuition!
